Who We Are

Swim Lessons Near Yorktown Heights, NY

In the United States, the leading cause of death among toddlers is drowning. What makes this tragedy worse is that it is completely avoidable.

Children as young as 6 months can be taught to successfully float face up until help arrives, and slightly older children can quickly learn enough swimming skills to get themselves out of danger should they fall into the water. At Swimfinity, our team of full-time, expert swim instructors teach your children these skills

What Programs We Offer

Infant Swim Lessons Yorktown Heights, NY

Our survival swimming programs can start as soon as your child can sit up, usually around the age of 6 months. Within 3-4 weeks, we guarantee that they’ll be able to roll over and float successfully, long enough for help to arrive should they ever fall into the water.

Our next level of survival swimming programs are for children who are able to walk, usually from the age of 12 months and up. After 4-6 weeks of personalized training, your child will have learned the swim-float-swim method, enabling them to safely get out of the water.

Since your children should be able to play both safely and happily in the water, we also offer Stroke School for kids who have mastered survival swim techniques. Starting with basic strokes and moving to more advanced ones, your child will quickly grow into a confident swimmer.

FAQs about the Swimming Lessons We Offer Near Yorktown Heights

About Age

Should I enroll my child in traditional or 'mommy and me' swim lessons first to get them acclimated to the water?

Traditional swim lessons teach certain skills that are contradictory to what we teach. For example, they teach children to blow bubbles when we want them to hold their breath. If your child falls into a pool or gets in trouble with water, we want them to hold their breath, not blow out all of their air. Secondly, traditional swim lessons teach children to be vertical in the water.

We want children to be horizontal in the water (meaning laying on their back or front) so they can actually swim and float. Lastly, traditional swim lessons do not teach children the basic survival skills, like how to independently flip and float to get air when needed, instead they teach children to reach safety first and foremost, at whatever cost (which can lead to panic, strain and or drowning).

We teach children the basics, for water safety and survival, so they can respect the water and when needed know how to safely handle a dangerous situation.

How can you teach a baby who is not verbal?

Swimming and floating are sensory motor skills that can be taught to a baby through repetitive exercises, along with gentle verbal encouragement. We repetitively show the babies what we want them to do, and over a short period of time, they learn the skills necessary to survive.

How old does my child need to be to start swimming lessons?

In order to start rollback-to-float lessons, your child should be at least 6 months old and able to sit up on their own. In order to learn the swim-float-swim method, however, your child should be at least a year old and able to walk. If your child is over 4 years old and not yet swimming independently, we have swimming programs, including a 'Fast Track' swim-float-swim program, that will get them up to speed.

Can my baby learn to swim?

If your baby has learned to walk, then we can teach him or her the swim-float-swim method! If your child has not learned to walk but can sit up, then he or she can learn to roll over and float.

If my child is less than 1 years old, can she/he learn to swim or float?

We teach the rollback-to-float sequence to babies ages 6 to 12 months. Through this program the child is taught breath control, correct floating posture, and the skills to attain a back float and remain floating for varied periods of time. Your child must be sitting in order to start rollback-to-float lessons.

Do swimming lessons for babies and children prevent drowning?

The lessons we provide will absolutely lessen the risk of drowning. However, we stress that no one, and particularly no child, should be considered drown proof regardless of the skills attained.

Do survival swim lessons cause babies and children to fear the water?

Not the way we do them! We make learning fun so that your child will love his water experience. We teach children to breathe independently whenever needed so they can truly feel comfortable and confident in water.

Do you teach adults how to swim?

Absolutely! We can and do teach students of all ages.

Do I need to get in the pool with my child?

It is not necessary for a parent to be in the water with their child during their learn-2-swim lessons. That said, we do encourage parents to practice with their children when they are recreationally swimming.

Do you offer Parent-Child swim classes?

Yes, we do offer parent-child swim lessons for younger children.

Does my child need to come multiple days per week to see progress?

We recommend that children come for 4 days per week if they’re under four years old OR 2 days per week if over four years old.

We offer flexibility for your child to come less than the recommended number of days per week. However, if your child comes less than the recommended numbers above, the 6-week guarantee does not apply.

What is the Swimfinity Guarantee?

If your child consistently comes for the recommended schedule but is not able to achieve survival swim techniques, then you will receive free lessons until they are able to do so.

About Our Approach

closed

Why is your swimming lesson method unique?

We do not throw children into the water! We make learning fun so that your child will love his water experience. We teach children to breathe independently whenever needed so they can truly feel comfortable and confident in water.

How are swimming lessons structured?

Our lessons are one-on-one, approximately 10 minutes in length, usually 4 days per week for 4-6 weeks. Each swim lesson builds upon the previous day’s lesson, so you will see measurable progress each week.

What is the parent's role in the swim lessons?

It is critical to bring a positive attitude to each lesson. We can teach your child skills, but it is your support that will most affect his/her attitude and progress. We have observed that children do much better when parents are involved and cheer as they acquire and develop new skills. We cannot over emphasize the importance of your support.

Is my child drown-proof after completing the swim lessons?

No one should be considered drown-proof regardless of the skills attained. Dedicated supervision, alarms, sensors, fencing, learning to swim and knowing CPR are the only ways to prevent drowning.

Awareness should be brought to all aquatic environments not just pools.

About Cost

How much do swimming lessons cost?

The cost of lessons is a weekly fee for the number of weeks your child needs lessons and is primarily dependent on age. We guarantee results within the 6 weeks if you are consistent with lessons. Once your child completes private lessons, they will transition directly into group classes. Group classes are designed to strengthen and build on your child’s newly acquired skills.

Why are your swimming lessons more expensive than others?

Actually, our lessons are not more expensive. You are buying private lessons for your child that will teach them more efficiently. Our lessons are one-on-one with your child receiving the instructors undivided attention. Your child will have a fighting chance to survive an aquatic accident in just 4-6 weeks of lessons, along with the necessary skills to safely enjoy the water.

No other program comes close to what we can teach your child in a matter of weeks. We encourage you to compare programs, but evaluate the results achieved and the time frame involved, as much as pricing.

Is there a sibling discount?

The registration fee is $100 for the first child and $75 for siblings enrolled at the same time.

We can absolutely help! Few other programs match our efficiency. If your child consistently follows the lesson schedule, then we guarantee results within weeks, not years!

About When To Start & Other Program Details

Why are flotation devices not recommended for recreational swim?

Floatation devices, such as inflatable arm bands, puddle jumpers and life jackets position children in a vertical position in the water.

The child then develops a false sense of security. If a child or an unskilled swimmer regularly uses a floatation device and accidentally falls into the water without the device, they will instinctively return to a vertical posture.

A child can only tread water for so long before they will sink. The swim-float-swim technique is a proven, self-sufficient way to protect yourself and children around water.

When are private lessons scheduled?

We offer lessons Monday through Thursday. The private lesson schedule changes weekly, and is not available for online viewing. Contact us to discuss specific scheduling needs.

How soon can we start?

We start new students every week, whenever there are openings on the schedule. If our schedule is full, your child will be placed on a waiting list.

How long does the program take?

It typically takes 4-6 weeks to learn all the skills. The exact length of time varies somewhat since every lesson is geared to the child and every child is different. Typically, children over 4 will complete lessons in a shorter period of time.

I would have never believed that my daughter (who didn’t like to get her face wet in the bathtub) would be begging to stay in the pool after only 3 short weeks!

-Sheila G.

Ali taught our daughter the swim float swim technique in just 5 weeks. My daughter now knows exactly what to do when she gets in the water, and now loves to swim.

-MaryBeth E.

I hope this never happens, but if my son ever accidentally falls into a pool, I am confident he would be ok until an adult can get to him. He absolutely loves to swim now!
