New York Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a groundbreaking water safety bill into law, positioning New York as a national leader in drowning prevention. The legislation, backed by the New York Water Safety Coalition (NYWSC) and the US Swim School Association (USSSA), mandates all New York hospitals to provide new parents with a state-approved informational video about drowning risks for infants and young children. This initiative is a response to alarming statistics showing drowning as the leading cause of death for children under 5. The NYWSC and USSSA hope this law will serve as a model for other states and continue their advocacy with a bill aimed at establishing a statewide drowning prevention public awareness campaign.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This means all parents will receive video-based drowning prevention education in the hospital when they have babies. Groundbreaking.Life-saving. Amazing. We are so grateful!!!
